Please join us at the Dumb Friends League Quebec shelter in Denver on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. for a Foster Parent Open House! This is a perfect chance to learn about fostering pets at the Dumb Friends League. You will have the opportunity to meet the volunteer staff, foster staff, current foster parent volunteers, ask any questions you have and interact with some of our animals in need of fostering.

Who are we?

Founded in 1910, the Dumb Friends League is a national leader in providing humane care to lost and abandoned animals, rescuing sick, injured and abused animals, adopting pets to new homes, helping pets stay in homes, and educating pet owners and the public about the needs of companion animals.

The Dumb Friends League is the largest animal welfare organization in the Rocky Mountain region, welcoming tens of thousands animals to our two shelters. We turn no animals away.

At our main shelter in southeast Denver and our Buddy Center in Castle Rock, dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets enjoy the comfort of a nurturing environment in state-of-the-art facilities.

The Buddy Center opened in April 2002. It is the first and only shelter in one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation. The facility is a 16,000-square-foot animal shelter, capable of accommodating up to 5,000 animals a year.

We are also proud to announce the opening of our Dumb Friends League Harmony Equine Center in March 2012.  The equine center is a 168-acre facility, located east of Castle Rock, that provides a safe haven for up to 500 horses, ponies, donkeys and mules annually that have suffered from abuse and neglect. The Center receives and cares for equines that are removed from owners by law enforcement authorities.

What do we ask for in foster parents?

To foster with the Dumb Friends League, you must be at least 18 or older.  If you are a youth age 12–17, you could qualify for our Junior Foster Parent program.  To stay active as a foster parent, we ask that you foster at least one animal every three months.  Our biggest need is for fostering cats and kittens; however, you will have the opportunity to foster other animals including dogs, puppies and a variety of small mammals (rabbits, hamsters, mice, gerbils, rats, ferrets and guinea pigs) that just need a little extra help before they’re ready to find a forever home.
